UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to make official visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Singapore from Aug 31 to Sep 2, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Friday (Aug 30). 
This will be his first official visit to Singapore as the UN’s secretary-general.
During his visit, Mr Guterres will call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who will host a lunch in his honour. 
He will also meet Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. 
Mr Guterres previously transited through Singapore in October 2022 and was hosted to breakfast by Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan during his stopover. 
Former UN secretary-general Ban Ki Moon made an official visit to Singapore in 2012 and a working visit to the country in 2016. 
During his visit, Mr Guterres will be hosted to a tour of Marina Barrage and lunch by Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu. 
He will also tour Punggol Regional Library with Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Digital Development and Information and Ministry of Health Janil Puthucheary, and then be hosted to dinner by Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo. 
Mr Guterres will be accompanied on his trip by Under-Secretary-General for Policy in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General Guy Ryder and other officials from the UN.
